I’m Stuart Riches and I run Waypoint Consulting, an IT consultancy that focusses on providing general IT advice, project management, Web Development, eCommerce and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) services to businesses in and around East Anglia from my base in South Norfolk
I have over 20 years experience in providing and managing a wide range of IT services to a number of businesses, including management roles for companies such as Quaker Oats, PepsiCo and Honey Monster Foods before setting up my own business enabling more businesses to call on my experience. I have implemented ERP deployments, project managed large scale office refurbishments and moves, developed code and managed databases, managed IT departments and been involved in a number of business acquisitions, mergers and disposals.
I am also a director of Greenocity, an IT consultancy specialising in issues around Green IT and in particular IT energy efficiency. It is staggering the amount of power consumed necessarily by IT environments in most firms, and the reason behind this is fairly straightforward – IT departments are not responsible for the energy usage they cause. Indeed in many cases they do not even know how much energy they are responsible for.
Energy Efficiency is probably the most pragmatic element of Green IT. The equation is simple
Unnecessary Energy Consumed = Higher Energy Bills = Reduced Profits & More CO2 emissions
and the implication should therefore be clear – Reducing unnecessary Energy Usage will help both the bottom line and the environment at the same time, what’s not to like?
