Welcome to the blog of Waypoint Consulting. Here you will find our musings on (mainly) IT related issues that have caught our attention, or any technical stuff that we have come across that we think is worth publishing.

Most of these are likely to be around issues and stories to do with the work I am most actively involved in at the moment, namely web development (primarily php and mySQL), Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) & project management. My broader IT consulting assignments can cover anything from IT strategy to fixing particular issues with anything from operating systems to applications or databases. So you can expect a wide range of IT related topics to be covered over the coming months.

My move into SEO was prompted by the experience of a number of friends who have their own businesses, and have at various points engaged various SEO firms or consultants to help on their websites. Their experiences were probably 90%+ negative, with large sums of money being paid for no discernible benefit. Communication from the SEO consultants were usually appalling, with many not even wanting to meet and understand the business they are supposedly trying to promote. Maybe you can argue that my friends were naive and should have been tougher with the SEO – I certainly did. However what seems to remain is that there are many many businesses out there that are being badly let down by SEO consultants, and as part of the IT industry that annoys me.
